Coronation Day in Kathmandu and Other Essays brings together twenty-eight essays penned originally in English by Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Nepal's most esteemed wordsmith. Crafted with personal touch and often imbued with autobiographical candour, these essays traverse a spectrum of thought, from biting political satires to incisive social and cultural critique. The freshness of images and the spontaneity of expression, the sparks of creativity and the flights of imagination, the expositions of individual quirks and mannerisms, the understanding of moral and ethical issues and the questioning of beliefs, of trends, of deviant behaviour, as evident in these essays, all speak volumes about the writer who, often standing apart from the object of his study, remains full of human sympathy. These essays eloquently showcase Devkota's linguistic and stylistic mastery— a brilliance mistakenly ahead of its time.
